I’ve been stuck in a bit of a rut trying to find a good starting point for this journey. Do I need a financial goal? Can I use my existing savings or is this an isolated experiment? What are the success criteria – buying a private island, a loaf of bread or something in between?
I decided that in this case it was probably best to just start doing; I could overthink this for weeks and still get nothing done. For now, I just want to make something. A penny. Ten quid. It really doesn’t matter. My only goal at this stage is cash in hand. With the customary procrastination session out of the way, it was time to hit Google.
After sifting through the usual assortment of Crypto Bros and Alpha Males trying to sell me dropshipping courses, I came across an interesting Subreddit – Beer Money UK. This sub is dedicated to making money. Beer money, to be specific. Small, repeatable ways to make a few pounds here and there. That’s exactly the starting point I needed!
I spotted this post which detailed some of the best paid survey sites (presumably for a UK audience), and it intrigued me. I’ve heard of paid surveys before, but I was generally put off by the low return on time investment. My assumptions were correct; looking through the post, even some of the best survey sites only paid £0.50 for 10 minute surveys. £3.00 per hour isn’t exactly well-paying, but what I hadn’t considered before was that I could do these while watching TV – something I usually spend an hour or so a day doing anyway.
Screw it. As my only goal is to earn something right now, I figured that I might as well use surveys as my starting point. I signed up to a few of the recommended sites, divulged way too much personal information (they really do ask about everything – presumably to target surveys more accurately) and my next job was to sit and wait until they started rolling in.
Roll in they did, and over the past three days I’ve ‘earned’ about £2 for roughly an hour spent. The catch is that these earnings are split across three platforms, and each platform has a minimum withdrawal limit of at least £10. This means I can’t claim the money quite yet, but it’s a start and I’m happy to have made it.
It’s beyond clear at this point that surveys are not the route to financial independence, but it could serve as a springboard. If I can earn, say, £30 from surveys over the span of a month, maybe I could use that £30 and turn it into something a bit more substantial. We’ll see. In the meantime, if you have some time on your hands and you don’t mind clicking around on your laptop while watching your favourite show, it might be worth getting signed up to some of these. Together we’ll build a survey earnings empire (I may need a lot of you for this)!
Stay well, and talk later.
